For urgent current-custody or JailTracker questions, contact the Kenton County Detention Center at 3000 Decker Crane Lane, Covington, KY 41017, 859-363-2400. For sheriff records, contact Kenton County Sheriff, Covington Office, 1840 Simon Kenton Way, Suite 1200, Covington, KY 41011, 859-392-1800, fax 859-392-1829. The sheriff publishes counter hours of Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Open-records requests to the sheriff may be directed to Major Bill Steinborn at the Covington address or bill.steinborn@kentoncounty.org. The sheriff accepts signed requests by hand, mail, fax, or email and generally responds within five days excluding weekends and holidays. Case and disposition questions belong with the Kenton Circuit Clerk at the Kenton Justice Center, 230 Madison Avenue, Covington, KY 41011, 859-292-6521.
- For a booking photo, roster result, or older booking record, begin with the county booking and records hub, then use the named official custodian.
- For the sheriff's in-person warrant procedure, review Most Wanted Fugitives. The sheriff does not provide an online or telephone warrant search.
- For a recent arrest or release date, use KCDC JailTracker. Call KCDC when the status is urgent because the portal can lag.
- For the underlying incident report, contact the police department that made the arrest. A city report and a KCDC intake are separate records.
- For a sentenced state prisoner, use the Kentucky Department of Corrections KOOL search.
- For a sentenced federal prisoner or immigration detainee, use the responsible BOP or ICE locator. Kenton County cannot certify another agency's current custody.
